  • Recording of your speech in Japanese (audio file in USB drive, etc.)

Purpose To promote the study of the Japanese language in the Midwest and to deepen the mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the United States.
Categories Contestants will be divided into one of the following three categories:
  1. Category 1
    • Elementary School & Middle School Students who are learning Japanese as a foreign language.
  2. Category 2
    • High School Students who are learning Japanese as a foreign language.
  3. Category 3
    • College Students who are learning Japanese as a foreign language.
Subject Category 1:
  1. Self Introduction
  2. Favorite Things
  3. Interesting or memorable experiences or events in their life
Category 2-3:
  1. Any topic is acceptable
Eligibility This contest is open to all individuals who reside in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

All Categories
  1. Are non-native speakers of Japanese.
  2. Have not lived/studied in Japan for more than two years after the age of 6.
  3. Were no raised in homes where Japanese was spoken regularly.
  4. Have not participated twice in the same category of this contest in the past.
Judging Criteria Content, Organization, Language, Delivery and Memorization.
