Welcome to the Consular Services page. The Visa Section of the Consulate-General of Japan in Chicago takes care of the issuance of visas to foreign nationals who wish to enter Japan. Whether you need to obtain a visa in order to enter Japan differs according to the purpose of visit, length of your stay, your nationality, etc. So please read the instructions found under the "Visas" tab carefully to determine if you need a visa. Before travel, be sure to additionally read the "Customs" and "Immigration Procedures" pages to familiarize yourself with Japanese policies when entering and leaving the country.
In addition, the Consular Section processes various legal documents for foreign nationals as well as Japanese nationals or visitors in the 10 Midwestern states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Many of these documents are only in the Japanese language and can be accessed when clicking on the "Services for Japanese Nationals" tab.
