On Wednesday, July 6th, the Japan America Society of Chicago held the seminar “Japan: Road to Recovery – Challenges and Opportunites.” This seminar was conducted for the purpose of providing accurate information about the current situation in Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake, and sending positive messages regarding the future reconstruction of Japan. The seminar was also a component of the Japan-U.S. Public-Private Partnership for Reconstruction that was announced at the Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministerial Meeting this past April.

(2) Hideki Asari, Minister from the Embassy of Japan, mainly spoke about the damage of the earthquake and the state of recovery efforts, that Japan is “Open for business,” the government's movement towards reconstruction as well as future directions, “reconstruction open to the world,” and finally he publicized the many international contributions to Japan.
(3) Tatsuhiro Shindo, Chief Executive Director of JETRO Chicago, spoke about the earthquake's impact on Japan’s economy, recovery situation of supply chains, safety of Japanese food and products, the U.S.-Japan economic relationship, Japanese robot technology, and investments to Japan by foreign companies after the earthquake.
(4) Kathryn Ibata Arens, Associate Professor of Political Science at DePaul University, spoke about future business opportunities, including those related to eco-towns, venture capital, and new business incubators in Japan.
