U.S.-Japan Public-Private Partnership on Reconstruction
“Road to Recovery – Challenges and Opportunities”

On Wednesday, July 6th, the Japan America Society of Chicago held the seminar “Japan: Road to Recovery – Challenges and Opportunites.” This seminar was conducted for the purpose of providing accurate information about the current situation in Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake, and sending positive messages regarding the future reconstruction of Japan. The seminar was also a component of the Japan-U.S. Public-Private Partnership for Reconstruction that was announced at the Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministerial Meeting this past April.

On this day, Hideki Asari, Minister from the Embassy of Japan, Tatsuhiro Shindo, Chief Executive Director of JETRO Chicago, and Kathryn Ibata Arens, Associate Professor of Political Science at DePaul University, spoke on a wide range of topics, including earthquake damage and recovery situations, the movement and direction of private and public sectors toward future reconstruction, Japan-U.S. relations, and possible business opportunities. About 80 officials from Chicago businesses and industry listened eagerly as the speakers gave a strong message that Japan is safe and “open for business," will revitalizate stronger through the future reconstruction process, and that various business opportunities will emerge.
