Great East Japan Earthquake Donations and Assistance

 

The Consulate General of Japan at Chicago expresses our sincere appreciation for the outpouring of support, kind words, and offers of assistance that we have received from across the Midwest.

Those who wish to contribute to the recovery effort may use one of the following options:

(Note: Donations made directly to the Japanese Red Cross or through the Japanese Consulate are not tax deductible. If you would like your donation to be deductible from your United States taxes, please consider donating through organizations that have the relevant charitable status, such as the Japan America Society of Chicago, the Japan America Society of Indiana, the Heart of America Japan America Society, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Chicago, the Japan America Society of St. Louis, or the American Red Cross.)

1. The Japanese Red Cross

Giving financial support to those living in the affected areas

All the fund received will be transferred by the Japanese Red Cross to the Distribution Committee in the municipalities in the affected area, to be distributed to the population affected by earthquake and tsunami.

2. The Consulate General of Japan at Chicago
The Consulate will also be accepting donations for the Japanese Red Cross. All donations we receive will be sent to the Japanese Red Cross and used as aid for the victims of the disaster.

We can accept donations either as cash or check at the Consulate’s front window (check can also be mailed to the Consulate):

*All donations the Consulate receives will be collected and remitted to the Japanese Red Cross. When remitting, the names and other information of those who donated will not be shared with the Japanese Red Cross.
3. The American Red Cross
US tax deductible donations can be made to the Japanese Red Cross through the American Red Cross. Please specify "For Japanese Earthquake Relief" when tendering the donation to the American Red Cross.
